SST, S'pore Orientation in school and 7th - 8th Jan 2010 Orientation Adventure Camp in Sarimbun Scout Camp (THOUGHTS)

My Thoughts

I think through this whole Orientation period, we have learnt more about our classmates and understand them better and thus the project works given were mostly a success as we had applied TEAMWORK into these activities, TRUSTING our class or teammates more and also FOLLOW the LEADER and not to lead ourself to go different directions.

This is what it means by WORKING AS A:
Together
Everyone
Achieve
More !!!

Coming Together is a BEGINNING,
Staying Together is a PROGRESS,
Working Together is SUCCESS...

SO HAVE YOU SUCCEEDED???

SST, S'pore Orientation in school and 7th - 8th Jan 2010 Orientation Adventure Camp in Sarimbun Scout Camp (REFLECTIONS)

Reflections
  • What are the three main points (or more) that you had learnt from all the activities?
  • How can all this pointers be of help to you?
  • If you were to have another chance to try all the activities, which One will you choose? Why?
  • If there is one thing you would like change about yourself, what would that be?

From all the orientation activities, the 3 main points that I have learnt are that TEAMWORK is very important in whatever things that we are doing as a group, having TRUST of your group or classmates and most importantly, we must trust our leader that he is leading us towards the CORRECT DIRECTION, lastly is that even though we may not be the Leader, we can still be empowered to be just like one, for example taking ones own initiative. This few pointers help me to understand that we should input these few main points into our daily activities so that things like project works could be carried out smoothly with less arguments or conflict and be able to come to a decision quick and fast, in order to continue and not stuck at one point for a long time. I think the Best activity that I want to try again is probably the ZIP (if i nvr rmb wrongly) though it can be quite scary, because it was quite fun and exciting. Being able to see everything like a bird flying above the ground(which of course humans can't do so) and also probably this could only be a once-in-a-lifetime chance was probably another reason. Something that I would want to change is to try my best to help out more and be more out outspoken in terms of saying out my ideas and also STOP PROCRASTINATING--- when doing homework...

SST, S'pore Orientation and 7th - 8th Jan 2010 Orientation Adventure Camp in Sarimbun Scout Camp (OBJECTIVES)

My Objectives for this camp and the overall Orientation:
  • To be able to TRUST my classmates more and to understand them better.
  • To promote CLASS TEAMWORK so that whatever things we do, we could do it fast as we can work as a team, with everyone co-operating with the leader.
  • To be able to understand more about the SCHOOL VISION and MISSION through the activities.

6 Jan: #2 The Amazing Race - Debrief (II) Personal Reflection

On your own...

  • What do you understand about the school value "Expanding Our Learning Networks"?
  • Why is this value important and how will it help you in your learning experience in SST?

What I understand about the school value "Expanding Our Learning Networks" is to widen our learning place, meaning, we can also learn not just within the classroom or in the school compound, but also learn outside it, just like today, when we were out of the school for an amazing race (walk?), we still can learn many things.
Sometimes, maybe , we could maybe really go out of school to do things hands-on by ourselves. (probably for science, look at the REAL plants and animals that were taught in class about, etc, etc) I find that this value is important as we as SST students who learns things from real-life activities (Applied Learning), can expand our learning venue, as you would be shocked that actually we could learn so much more out there!

5 Jan: #2 Team-Building Challenge - Debrief (II) Personal Reflection

This task can be completed either in class or as homework - To be completed by the end of the day.
Based on your experience in the Team Building Activity...
on your own, reflect on the following:
  • What do you understand about the school value ‘Forging Excellence’?
  • What are the strengths that you think you possess which can help you to achieve excellence?
  • What other attributes and attitudes do you think you need to cultivate to excel in the things you do?
  • How can you contribute to help your class succeed?

To me, it means to do our very best and achieve the best of our potential to be able to get the perfect results we expect to get! My strengths that make me able to achieve good results is the habit of revision. The bad thing about me that I of course need to cultivate is to STOP PROCRASTINATING so that I could achieve the result I want. In order for my class to succeed, I need in my best in whatever projects is given and of course PARTICIPATE 100%!

4 Jan: #4 Bridge-Building Activity - Debrief (II) Personal Reflection

This task can be done either in class or as homework, and must be completed by the end of the day.
Based on your experience in the Bridge-Building Activity...
on your own, reflect on the following:
How do you feel about working in a team on the bridge-building project?
What do you think about your interactions with the members in your team?
What have you learnt about yourself in the course of the activity and what will you do differently in future team activities?
Did you experience any fear, discomfort, or apprehension working with this team? Why?
How did you overcome it?
My Personal Reflection:
As I am a social learner, I will feel that working in a team, as a group, to do a project is of course much better than doing individual work even though I might not talk to many people at first which is quite common among people. Slowly we get to know one another, and thus of course the interaction between the group would then become much better even though at times, there might be things that we might not agree with one another. So of course, we have sort things out and quickly make a decision as TIME IS PRECIOUS when doing a project. In this project, I learnt that TEAMWORK is needed in whatever projects we are doing. All group members must at least do something (worst come to worst, at least help throw rubbish, haha). I also feel in the next project or so, I should try my very to fork out any ideas and do my very best to make whatever upcoming projects a success and not an unaccomplished work. Actually there is not much of any difficulties when doing the project, just probably a little discomfort as sometimes(quite seldom) my ideas could not get through my group members. So I have decided to try getting it through even though I would probably have to say it 3 times... To me, ITS OKAY!
